Considered one of the supreme achievements of Bach’s career and, in fact, one of the finest works of Western civilization, Bach’s Mass in B Minor was composed over a period of two decades and was not performed in its entirety until 1859, more than 100 years after Bach’s death. A magnificent musical setting of the traditional Roman Catholic liturgy, sung in Latin, the Mass is B Minor has 27 sections – solo arias, duets, and choruses for as many as eight parts.
Together, the Oratorio Main Chorus and Chamber Chorus comprise the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte (OCS), the official chorus of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. The OSC Main Chorus is composed of more than 130 singers, many of whom hold graduate degrees in music. Membership is by audition with the OSC Conducting Staff. |
